Privacy Policy

• Your residential postcode (to match the correct distribution network and regulated reference price).
• Bill data extracted from the PDF you upload — typically retailer, tariff type, supply charge, usage rates and controlled-load rates.
• Usage data — your daily/quarterly kWh totals, time-of-use splits (if present), and solar export.
• Basic technical metadata (browser, timestamp, error logs) used only to keep the service running.

If you choose to leave an email address:

• Your email address, stored with your postcode and network, a consent flag, and the date and time you gave it.
• Whether you asked to be told when a better plan appears.

For Annual subscribers ($39/year) only:

• Your National Meter Identifier (NMI) — stored as a one-way cryptographic hash to verify your meter on future uploads. The full NMI is never stored; only the last 3 digits are retained for display purposes.
• Your bill usage profile (network, tariff type, state, consumption figures) — retained to enable quarterly market comparisons.
• Your email address, stored encrypted.

We do not ask for your name, address, account number, or payment-account details in order to produce a comparison. If you choose to purchase a paid tier, payment details are handled by Stripe (stripe.com), our PCI-compliant payments processor. Ausentis Labs never stores your card details. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/au/privacy.

If you leave an email address, we use it to send you your comparison, and to send monitoring alerts only if you asked for them. We don't use it for anything else and we don't share it. Every email we send carries a one-click unsubscribe, and you can email support@ausentis.com.au at any time to have your details deleted.

• Bill reading — Google Gemini, which extracts the figures from your uploaded bill.
• Application platform and hosting — our development and hosting provider, which operates the WattCheck application.
• Content delivery and security — Cloudflare.
• Payment processing — Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
• Email delivery — sending your comparison and any monitoring alerts.
• Advertising measurement — Meta (Facebook), through the Meta Pixel. When you visit WattCheck, this sends Meta your IP address, the page you're on, and whether you completed steps such as entering a postcode or uploading a bill. We use it to measure whether our ads reach people who find WattCheck useful. It does not send Meta your bill, your rates or your comparison result.
• Fonts — Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces used on this site. Your browser requests them from Google, which receives your IP address.

We do not sell, rent or share your information with energy retailers, brokers, lead generators or marketing lists.

WattCheck is owned and operated by Ausentis Labs Pty Ltd (ABN 26 699 165 207), an Australian company based in Melbourne. Overseas providers process your data on our instruction only.

Your bill file:

The uploaded bill file is never written to our disk or object storage. It is held in memory, passed to the bill reader, and discarded. A temporary copy may remain in your own browser's session storage, on your device.

Free users (full comparison):

We retain anonymous comparison data — postcode, network and usage figures — not linked to a person. Aggregated, non-identifying technical logs may be retained for up to 30 days for security and reliability.

Email addresses:

We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask for it to be deleted.

Annual subscribers ($39/year):

To enable quarterly monitoring, we retain the following for the duration of your active subscription:

• Your NMI hash and last 3 digits — to verify your meter on future uploads.
• Your bill usage profile (network, tariff type, state, consumption figures) — to run quarterly market comparisons.
• Your quarterly comparison results — retained for up to 12 months to track savings over time.

All subscriber data is permanently deleted within 30 days of subscription cancellation or expiry. You may request early deletion at any time by emailing privacy@ausentis.com.au.

• Request correction or deletion of that information.
• Complain about how we handle your personal information.
